Clearwater Beach, Florida is a beach resort that’s welcoming of visitors – even families who have children. Not only is it an easy destination to arrive at, but once there you’re greeted with sprawling beaches filled with white powdery sand. Besides the beach, there’s plenty of other activities to enjoy and they’re all relatively easy to get to thanks to Florida Free Rides – a free local transportation company that runs from 7AM – 3PM daily.
A Mini Carnival
Sunsets at Pier 60 is like a mini carnival your children are sure to enjoy. Here your children will enjoy the musicians and street performers they find. You’ll also have crafts to enjoy while your children play on the playground, in the inflatable bounce castle or on the water slide.
The Marine Aquarium
Before heading to Clearwater Beach, you should make sure to watch the movie Dolphin Tale with your children. This way they’ll know Winter (the movie’s main character) when they arrive at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. While there they’ll also enjoy a great dolphin show and be able to learn about how marine animals are rescued.
Take a Dolphin Cruise
If your children haven’t had enough of the dolphins yet, you should take them on a dolphin cruise. If sharks are more their thing, there’s also a shark themed and a pirate cruise. You can also get wet on the Sea Screamer cruise. All these depart from the Clearwater Marina. While there, Dad may enjoy a half-day fishing expedition.
There are many activities you can enjoy without sitting back and simply being a spectator. For instance, if you have a child who’s over the age of 14, they can drive a rented jet ski. If not, your children can ride along with you as you drive one. You can also go snorkeling at Indian Rocks Beach or swim with the manatees in Crystal River. For those who are a little more daring there’s parasailing and for those who aren’t, well you can check out Captain Bligh’s Landing where you can play a game of miniature golf.
Enjoy Other Local Attractions
What do you do when your family isn’t the active type but you still enjoy sporting events? Well, you should go watch the area’s minor league baseball team (the Clearwater Threshers) play a game. Of course, after you’ve explored Clearwater Beach, you should make sure you explore the other areas nearby. There you’ll find things like the Dali Museum in St. Petersburg or the Morean Arts Center.
Feed Your Appetite
At the end of the day you’re bound to be hungry. There are plenty of great restaurants available for you to choose from like Frenchy’s (while there, make sure you try one of their famous grouper sandwiches).
